The maths behind better trade planning

01 / RISK

Gold position size

Start with your risk budget: USD account balance × risk percentage. Divide by your stop distance in USD per ounce, then by the contract's troy ounces per lot.

Lots = risk USD / (stop distance × oz per lot)
02 / SCENARIO

Profit & loss

For a buy, the move is exit minus entry; for a sell, reverse it. Multiply by the total gold ounces. Include your broker's fees separately.

P&L USD = signed price move × lots × oz
03 / MARGIN

Capital requirement

Under a simple fixed-leverage model, estimate trade notional value and divide by leverage. Your broker can impose a higher requirement.

Margin ≈ (price × lots × oz) / leverage

Trading calculator FAQ

Is this calculator free?

Yes. All six trading calculators are free, browser-based educational tools. No account is needed.

Does a standard XAUUSD lot always contain 100 ounces?

No. Many brokers use 100 troy ounces per lot, but XAUUSD contract size, minimum lot, swap, margin and quote conventions vary by broker and account. Check your exact contract specification and change the input.

Do these tools use live gold prices?

No. Enter your own current quote, entry, exit and stop prices. The outputs are estimates based only on the numbers you enter.

How is Gold position size calculated?

For an account denominated in USD, estimated lots = (balance × risk percentage) ÷ (absolute USD-per-ounce stop distance × troy ounces per lot). Check fees, slippage and account currency before using the result.

Does this guarantee my stop loss amount?

No. Slippage, gaps, fees, spread, broker specifications and currency conversion may change the realized result. These tools do not execute trades or provide personalized financial advice.

Risk disclosure

These free tools provide arithmetic estimates, not live market data, broker quotes or financial advice. Leveraged forex and gold trading can cause substantial losses. Verify all instrument terms before placing a trade.
